CS:GO Grand Final at DreamHack Leipzig Promises Excitement
The grand final of the inaugural Leipzig event at DreamHack is just one day away, and is set to be a highly anticipated match in the world of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
Over the course of the weekend, eight of the best CS:GO teams competed for a prize pool of $100,000. Now, only two teams remain: Luminosity Gaming from Brazil and Natus Vincere (Na’Vi) from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
In the semifinals, Na’Vi secured a 2-0 victory against Team Dignitas, while Luminosity defeated Astralis, formerly known as Team SoloMid, in a rematch from DreamHack Winter two months ago.
Both Na’Vi and Luminosity were part of Group A before entering the bracket stage. Na’Vi dominated the group, securing wins against SK Gaming and FaZe Clan, the recently-acquired former G2 Esports squad.
During the group stage, Na’Vi defeated SK Gaming 16 to 3 on Mirage, and had a closer match against FaZe Clan, ultimately winning 16 to 9.
After losing to Na’Vi, FaZe went on to face Luminosity in the decider match, where Luminosity won 2-0, securing their spot in the final.
While Na’Vi’s presence in the final is expected, given their consistent performance in the past six months, Luminosity’s improvement in the last three months is worth acknowledging.
Since the team relocated from Brazil to North America after being signed by Luminosity in July, their performance has steadily improved, surpassing other North American teams like Cloud9, Counter Logic Gaming, and Team Liquid.
With their improvement, Luminosity has the potential to challenge Natus Vincere in the final. The match is scheduled to begin at 7am ET and can be watched on DreamHack’s Counter-Strike Twitch channel.
