Acend Secures Crucial Victory Against G2 Esports in VALORANT Champions Tour Stage Two

Acend and G2 Esports battled it out in EMEA VALORANT Champions Tour Stage Two, with both teams fighting for a playoff spot. Despite a strong start from G2’s mixwell, Acend managed to secure a much-needed 2-1 victory.

The series began with G2 dominating Acend on their chosen map, Split. Acend struggled without an initiator on their attack side, and G2’s mixwell capitalized on this with an impressive performance. Acend’s cNed had a particularly tough game, with only two kills and fourteen deaths. In contrast, mixwell secured twenty-three kills and only eight deaths, leading to a decisive 13-3 win for G2 on Split.

Acend learned from their mistakes and opted for a double-initiator composition on Icebox, utilizing KAY/O and Sova. They started well on the defense, shutting down G2’s B executes and gaining a 5-2 lead. Although G2 fought back to a 9-9 tie, Acend ultimately pulled away with their successful B executes, securing a 13-10 victory on Icebox.

The third map, Bind, followed a similar pattern to Icebox. Acend took an early lead but G2 fought back, eventually taking the lead into the defense rounds. The match remained tight, with both teams tied at 10-10. However, Acend managed to cross the finish line first, winning 13-11.

With this loss, G2’s playoff hopes in the EMEA region have been dashed as they now have a 1-3 record. They are unable to catch up to Fnatic’s 3-0 record, and both FPX and Acend have the head-to-head tiebreaker advantage over G2. However, G2 has secured a spot in the EMEA Last Chance Qualifier based on their performance in Stage One and Masters One. They still have one more match against Fnatic in Stage Two.
