Twitch Streamer Pokimane Faces Backlash Over Cookie Pricing
Twitch streamer Imane “Pokimane” Ansys has received criticism for the pricing of her new line of cookies. Adding fuel to the fire, she made a controversial “joke” implying that those who couldn’t afford the cookies were financially struggling. Although she has since apologized, fellow streamer Félix “xQc” Lengyel couldn’t resist sharing his opinion.
xQc Weighs in on the Controversy
xQc expressed his thoughts on a Kick stream on November 22, highlighting that he garnered more attention for “showing off his wealth to a millionaire in private” than Pokimane did for “flexing on someone who is financially disadvantaged while being a millionaire.” It’s worth noting that xQc has also engaged in similar displays of wealth on his social media.
Comparing Backlash: Pokimane vs. xQc
xQc’s comments led to a discussion about the differing degrees of backlash between him and Pokimane. In a Ludwig video covering the cookie drama, xQc claimed that he faced more hate for a previous controversy involving H3H3 than Pokimane has for the recent incident. However, it is difficult to determine the exact extent of the backlash without analyzing every YouTube video on the topics.
The Gender and Influence Factor
In the same video, Ludwig acknowledges the presence of sexism in the streaming community, stating that female streamers often receive more sustained hate for their mistakes compared to male streamers. However, he questions if this applies to Pokimane, noting that she receives less engagement on some of her content compared to xQc despite having a significantly smaller following.
It is crucial to remember that while Pokimane’s comment about viewers’ financial situations was in poor taste, xQc’s promotion of gambling streams and flaunting money in the context of the Israel-Gaza conflict has drawn even more criticism. Yet, it appears that xQc faces less backlash than Pokimane overall.
