Will Riot’s Upcoming MMO Revive the Genre? Streamer Sodapoppin Shares His Thoughts

Game success on Twitch can be unpredictable, especially for the MMO genre. Recently, new MMOs have gained popularity on the streaming platform only to quickly fade into irrelevance. This phenomenon even affects expansions of well-known titles like World of Warcraft.

In a recent stream, popular streamer Sodapoppin took some time to discuss the state of the MMO genre and whether it has a chance of making a comeback. While watching videos about Riot Games’ upcoming MMO, he expressed doubts about its potential for long-term success and compared it to the short-lived fun of WoW expansions.

As an influential figure in the Twitch community and an experienced MMO player, Sodapoppin is known for his skills as a Feral Druid in WoW. Despite his love for the genre, he highlighted the lack of lasting impact games like Lost Ark, New World, and Ashes of Creation have had or will have.

However, Sodapoppin did mention one scenario in which the genre could see a turnaround. He believes that Riot’s MMO, slated for release in six years, could be the last hope for the MMO genre to thrive once again. While the fate of Riot’s MMO remains uncertain, the involvement of a major developer like Riot Games could potentially give the genre the much-needed revamp it requires.
