SK Telecom T1 Shows Signs of Recovery Without Faker
The renowned esports team, SK Telecom T1, is currently experiencing one of their toughest years in the LCK. Given their successful track record with three Worlds titles, it’s surprising to see them struggle to make playoffs in the spring and have a poor start to the summer as well.
However, there might be a glimmer of hope. SKT has recently won their last three games against Jin Air Green Wings, bbq OLIVERS, and Hanwha Life Esports. These victories were decisive and well-executed. It’s important to note that they achieved this without their star player, Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, who was replaced by Choi “Pirean” Jun-sik.
Although Pirean might not be carrying the team single-handedly like Bae “Bang” Jun-sik, he’s been performing exceptionally well. His overall record in all three series is 14-3-32, which is quite impressive. However, it’s essential to consider that two of the teams SKT defeated are at the bottom of the standings, while Hanwha is not performing exceptionally either.
The real test for Pirean will come in their upcoming matches against Gen.G, Afreeca Freecs, and Griffin. These opponents will truly challenge Pirean, and it remains to be seen how he will fare if he continues to be in the starting lineup for SKT.
One positive aspect of Pirean’s performances is his versatility. He has shown great skill in playing supportive-style mid laners like Lulu and Galio, as well as carries like LeBlanc and Orianna. This adaptability brings a breath of fresh air to the SKT team as a whole.
SKT’s next match against Gen.G is scheduled for this Sunday at 3am CT.
