Overwatch 2 Season 10 Introduces Grouping in Competitive for Players of All Ranks and Implements Measures Against Leavers

Bronze players can now team up with Grandmaster friends in Overwatch 2’s Competitive Play

Good news for all the Bronze players out there! You will finally be able to team up with your Grandmaster friend in Overwatch 2’s Competitive Play. This exciting change was announced in a new Developer Update video by Blizzard.

The upcoming Season 10 of Overwatch 2 will introduce a new grouping mechanic called “Competitive Wide Groups”. This means that players of all ranks will be able to group, even if they are more than five divisions apart.

However, there are some important things to note about this new feature. Blizzard has warned that longer queue times may be expected due to the specific matchmaking requirements. For example, if you have a Platinum tank and a Bronze support in your group, the game will try to match you with another group that also has a Platinum tank and a Bronze support.

Blizzard believes that this change will not only enable friends of different ranks to play together but also reduce the number of smurf accounts in the game. Many players create alternate accounts just to play with their friends in different ranks, and this change aims to address that issue.

It’s worth mentioning that wide groups will only be matched against other wide groups, making the matches a bit sillier but more enjoyable for players who want to have fun with their friends in a competitive setting.

In addition to the exciting change in grouping mechanics, Overwatch 2 Season 10 will also bring updates to the ability to avoid players. Players will now have up to 10 slots to avoid other players, and they will also have the option to pin specific players on their avoid list. This change aims to prevent newer avoided players from being the least likely to be avoided, and it will prioritize replacing older avoided players who are not pinned.

Furthermore, Blizzard has confirmed that there will be harsher penalties for leavers and disruptive chat behavior. These measures are aimed at improving the overall gameplay experience and promoting fair competition.

All of these exciting new features will be implemented in-game when Overwatch 2 Season 10 releases on April 16. Stay tuned for more updates and get ready to team up with your friends regardless of their rank!
