League of Legends Community Furious Over New Mastery Emotes

Design choices in the popular game League of Legends have always been a sensitive topic for players. However, the latest unveiling of new and “improved” Mastery emotes by Riot Games has only intensified the community’s dissatisfaction.

The negative response from fans was almost instantaneous after a player shared what the new emotes look like during gameplay. The design was widely criticized as “ugly” and reminiscent of a “cheap mobile game.”

The new emotes have been added to League of Legends’ testing realm, and their future wider release is already generating backlash from players.

Why Change Mastery Emotes?

You might be wondering why Riot Games decided to change the Mastery emotes when they were already well-received. The reason behind this decision is the introduction of a new Mastery system. The system allows players to continue earning points and level up their champion’s Mastery beyond the previous level cap of seven. Although this change is appreciated by many, players still wish for better emote designs.

Outdated and Unfitting Designs

The new emblems have received overwhelming criticism, described as “super gross and tacky” and compared to games from the 2010 era. They are seen as outdated and not in line with League of Legends’ modern aesthetic. While the designs may be suitable for handheld games or other League of Legends game modes like TFT or Wild Rift, they simply don’t match the style of the original League of Legends gameplay.

Plea to Stick with the Old Design

In response to the backlash, players are pleading with Riot Games to stick with the old Mastery emote design and build upon it. Unfortunately, implementing this request may not be straightforward, considering how close the “upgraded” designs appear to be to release.

Possible Backlash and Hope for Change

With the displeasure expressed by the League of Legends community, it is crucial for Riot Games to address these concerns and consider revisions to the Mastery emotes. Failure to do so may result in further backlash, particularly after the recent dissatisfaction with the High Noon event pass. Players are hoping that their feedback will be taken into account and that the final designs will be more appealing and fitting for the game.
