K/DA’s “POP/STARS” Tops Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales Chart

The virtual group K/DA, known for the song “POP/STARS” in the game League of Legends, has reached the number one spot on Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales chart. The song, featuring real-life artists Madison Beer, (G)I-DLE, and Jaira Burns, has gained over 57 million views on YouTube and is also ranked on other Billboard charts. Its success can be attributed to its international influence, with two K-pop artists and two American artists involved.

First-time Success for K/DA and League of Legends

This achievement marks the first time that K/DA, as well as the champions Akali, Ahri, Evelynn, and Kai’Sa from League of Legends, have appeared on the Digital Song Sales list. This success not only benefits the game developer Riot Games but also reflects positively on the integration of music in esports.

Riot Games’ Future Plans in Music

Riot Games sees this accomplishment as a stepping stone towards establishing themselves as a full-fledged music label in the future. Prior to the release of “POP/STARS,” Riot presented fans with another song called “Rise,” which has not garnered the same level of popularity as “POP/STARS.”
