Flame’s Homecoming to Korea: DAMWON Gaming Welcomes New Top Laner

Former FlyQuest Top Laner Flame Returns to Korea, Joins DAMWON Gaming

Lee “Flame” Ho-jong, who failed to find a team at the start of the 2019 season, has made his return to Korea. Flame has joined DAMWON Gaming, the fifth-place team in the LCK, as announced on Twitter.

The addition of Flame comes just before the start of the second round of the 2019 Spring Split in the LCK. He will play as DAMWON’s second top laner, alongside Jang “Nuguri” Ha-gwon, the team’s main star. With almost seven years of competitive experience, Flame brings valuable knowledge to a team primarily made up of rookies.

It’s unclear whether DAMWON plans to share playing time on stage between Nuguri and Flame, but it is unlikely due to Nuguri’s importance to the team. Flame played a similar role as a substitute for LGD Gaming in 2015 when he was behind Choi “Acorn” Cheon-ju.

This return to Korea was unexpected for Flame, as many fans believed he would stay in North America, either with FlyQuest or another LCS team in need of a top laner like CLG.

Despite being one of the newest teams in the LCK along with SANDBOX Gaming, DAMWON is tied with Kingzone DragonX in the standings at fifth place. They ended the first round of the 2019 LCK Summer Split with a 2-0 sweep against Jin Air Green Wings.

Flame may make his LCK debut on Feb. 22 when DAMWON faces off against Hanwha Life Esports.
