The Impact of Dota 2 Pro Circuit on Esports
The Dota 2 Pro Circuit has had a significant impact on Dota esports since its launch last year.
Valve Opens Up Proposals for the 2018/19 Season
Valve, the publisher of Dota 2, is already looking ahead to next year’s Pro Circuit season. They have announced that they are now accepting event proposals from third-party organizers for the 2018/19 season.
Submission Details and Preferences
Interested organizers can submit their proposals to Valve for both Minor and Major tournaments. Valve has expressed a preference for specific dates in Fall 2018 for the Major grand final matches.
Selection Process
Valve will be choosing proposals for Majors first, followed by those for Minors. The submission period starts on February 16 and Valve will review each proposal individually.
Changes for Majors
Starting next year, all Majors must accommodate 16 teams. This change aims to give more teams the opportunity to earn qualification points for The International 9. However, it will still be challenging for teams in need of points to compete against the top teams in each region.
Increasing Opportunities for Lower Tier Teams
The change in the number of teams for Majors should help lower tier teams earn more money. Currently, prize pool distribution is up to the event organizers, but specific distribution rules from Valve may be needed to ensure a more equitable spread of wealth.
