OpTic Gaming’s Dota 2 team will replace OG at the China Dota 2 Supermajor, as confirmed by event organizer Perfect World.
OG withdrew from the tournament after s4 and Fly left the team. Both players joined Evil Geniuses, who had already released Fear and MiSeRy.
The Supermajor will take place from June 2 to 10 at the Yuanshen Gymnasium in Shanghai, China. Unlike previous Majors, this event has a larger prize pool of $1,500,000 and offers more Pro Circuit points, totaling 2,250.
As the final Pro Circuit event before The International 8 in August, the Supermajor presents a last opportunity for certain teams to secure a place in the top eight leaderboard and qualify for the world championship. OpTic wasn’t initially part of the Supermajor, but with OG’s withdrawal, they now have a chance to score enough points and surpass VGJ Thunder in the standings.
VGJ Storm will also participate in the Supermajor and both OpTic and VGJ Storm need to perform well to bypass their region’s qualifier tournament. Additionally, Fnatic, a Southeast Asian team, still has a chance to make it to the top eight, but they must finish in third place to overtake VGJ Storm and OpTic.
The race for a TI8 invite is still ongoing, and fans can expect an intense battle between these three teams as they make their final push towards Vancouver.
