OpTic Gaming Expands into Dota 2
OpTic Gaming, a major player in the esports industry, has made its foray into Dota 2.
In its latest move to diversify into different esports, OpTic Gaming has signed the Dota 2 roster formerly known as The Dire. This roster includes renowned players like Peter “ppd” Dager, Ludwig “zai” Wåhlberg, and Rasmus “MiSeRy” Filipsen, instantly making OpTic one of the strongest teams in North America.
A Powerful Roster
The European majority roster has been competing in North America since Sept. 1, participating in online qualifiers for upcoming Valve Majors and Minors. However, they have only managed to secure a spot in the upcoming Summit Dota 2 Minor on Dec. 13, and missed out on qualifying for the Hamburg Major and PGL Minor.
Expanding Horizons
OpTic’s venture into Dota 2 comes just two weeks after the organization acquired a slot in Blizzard’s Overwatch League. Rumors are also circulating that OpTic is exploring entry into the North American League of Legends Championship Series.
Investment Deal Sparks Growth
This rapid expansion is reportedly due to OpTic signing a major investment deal, including a partnership with Texas Rangers co-owner Neil Leibman.
The exact value of the deal remains undisclosed, but a slot in the Overwatch League is estimated to be worth $15 to $20 million, while entering the LCS would cost OpTic $13 million.
