Chinese Dota 2 Teams Face Elimination at Dota 2 Asia Championships
Chinese Dota 2 teams had a tough day at the Dota 2 Asia Championships, with three out of five Chinese squads being eliminated by their foreign counterparts in just two games each.
The first team to be knocked out was Newbee, the International 7 silver medalists. They were defeated by American team Evil Geniuses. Newbee’s drafting strategy was questionable, and they allowed Evil Geniuses to easily secure the hero Ancient Apparition, which was a weakness in their drafts. This led to a quick 2-0 victory for Evil Geniuses. Tomorrow, Evil Geniuses will face the only Chinese team that made it out of the group stage, LGD Gaming, in the upper bracket.
Next up was the TI7 champions Team Liquid, who faced VGJ Thunder. Team Liquid dominated the first game, winning in just 24-and-a-half minutes. Both Lasse “MATUMBAMAN” Urpalainen and Amer “Miracle-” Al-Barkawi played exceptionally well on Lone Druid and Gyrocopter respectively. The second game had a tense moment when VGJ Thunder picked off Miracle-‘s Nature’s Prophet, but it had little impact on the overall outcome of the game.
Invictus Gaming also faced elimination in the breakout round, losing to OpTic Gaming in a 2-0 sweep. The second game was thrilling, with Per Olsson “Pajkatt” Lille’s impressive play on Phantom Assassin making a significant impact on the game.
Vici Gaming’s main team finally brought some hope to the local crowd by winning against DreamLeague Season 9 champions Team Secret. Both games were intense and lasted over 45 minutes. Zhang “LaNm” Zhicheng’s outstanding Phoenix play in the second game gave Vici Gaming the advantage in teamfights and led them to victory.
