LGD Gaming’s TI Streak Continues with Loss to Gaimin Gladiators

LGD Gaming, the dominant force in China’s Dota 2 scene, faced a tough defeat at The International 2023. After a remarkable run throughout the year, the team was eliminated by Gaimin Gladiators, extending their unfortunate TI streak.

New Roster Leads to Disappointing Outcome

Following the retirement of Faith_bian and Ame taking a break after TI11, LGD rebuilt its roster around NothingToSay and y’ for the 2023 season.

Although the younger roster proved themselves as the best team in China, they struggled to make an impact globally until their fifth-place finish at the Bali Major. The team displayed their potential at TI12 by dominating the group stage and making an undefeated run to the upper bracket finals. However, they faced a setback against Team Spirit.

LGD Falls to Gaimin Gladiators in Lower Bracket Finals

Gaimin Gladiators handed LGD their first true loss of the tournament, knocking them down to the lower bracket finals. The Chinese team struggled to contest Gaimin’s outstanding performance, resulting in their elimination from the competition.

Gaimin’s Stellar Performance

Gaimin’s midlaner, Quinn, showcased exceptional gameplay on heroes like Necrophos and Queen of Pain. His dominant presence combined with coordinated rotations from the team limited LGD’s opportunities to make plays. In the second game, Gaimin gained early control of the map, preventing LGD from countering their item builds and effectively shutting down shiro’s Naga Siren.

Despite their loss, LGD’s continuous presence at The International is noteworthy. Since TI2 in 2012, the team has attended every iteration of the event and has consistently secured top finishes. However, they have yet to claim the coveted Aegis.

LGD’s future remains uncertain, with questions regarding Ame’s potential return to the team or the possibility of a different roster for the upcoming season.
