Evil Geniuses Acquires New Dota 2 Players Ahead of Chinese Super Major
Evil Geniuses has added two experienced players to its Dota 2 roster in preparation for the upcoming Chinese Super Major on June 2. The North American organization recently removed Rasmus “MiSeRy” Filipsen and Clinton “Fear” Loomis from the team and has now signed former Team OG members Gustav “s4” Magnusson and Tal “Fly” Aizik as replacements.
Roster Switch for Struggling Teams
Both OG and Evil Geniuses have been facing challenges in recent times. They have struggled to achieve notable results in the Dota 2 championship circuit, and as a result, they will not be directly invited to The International 8 on Aug. 15. Instead, they will have to go through the tournament’s regional qualifiers.
Evil Geniuses COO Philip Aram acknowledged the team’s current situation in a Facebook post, stating, “This is the hardest part of the season for every team that doesn’t achieve the goals set for themselves. At EG, we had to take a hard look at how to get back to competing at the level we expect of ourselves.”
Changes in Roles and Team Composition
In addition to the new signings, Evil Geniuses’ mid laner Syed “SumaiL” Hassan will be moving from the offlane position to the mid lane to accommodate s4’s arrival.
The decision to remove Fear and MiSeRy came after Evil Geniuses’ disappointing performance at the ESL One Birmingham Dota 2 Valve Major. Similarly, OG’s sixth-place finish at the event was not enough to keep the team together.
A Farewell and New Beginnings
The addition of Fly to Evil Geniuses marks the end of his almost four-year-long journey with OG. He was the only remaining original player on the roster besides Jonathan “n0tail” Sundstein. OG had a successful run during this time, winning four Valve Major titles and nurturing talented players like Amer “Miracle-” Al-Barkawi, Anathan “ana” Pham, and current Evil Geniuses support player Andreas “cr1t-” Nielsen.
Evil Geniuses now has a complete five-man roster, while only n0tail and Jesse “JerAx” Vainikka remain on OG.
