Sweden’s most successful “Dota 2” team, Alliance, is continuing to face challenges. After a disappointing performance at the second StarLadder Invitational on May 20, the team has announced that it is parting ways with support player Jerry “EGM” Lundkvist. EGM rejoined Alliance on Dec. 7, 2015, after previously being removed from the roster.
The decision to remove EGM was announced on May 21, just three days before the cut-off date for roster changes ahead of the International 7. Any team making changes after May 24 will not be eligible for invitations to the main event or regional qualifiers.
Although EGM was a part of the original Alliance team in 2013 and was known for his excellent play on heroes like Io, he has now been removed from the organization three times in the past four years. He played a key role in Alliance’s victory at the International 3, where they defeated Na’Vi to claim the $2.8 million prize.
Alliance’s recent performance in China, where they lost to TNC Gaming and Invictus Gaming in the group stage, as well as their failure to qualify for the Kiev Major on April 30, has highlighted the team’s struggle to achieve consistent success since 2014. The team has also undergone several significant roster changes during this time.
EGM’s removal comes at a difficult time for him to find a new team before the roster lock on May 24. However, the Alliance organization expressed confidence that EGM will be able to find a new team without any issues.
