WePlay! Esport Announces Winter Madness Tournament
One of the upcoming events in the esports calendar is the Winter Madness tournament by WePlay! Esport. The tournament will take place in late December and continue into 2019.
14 Top Teams to Compete
The Winter Madness tournament will feature 14 top teams competing for the Iron Throne and a $100,000 prize. Some of the participating teams include Alliance, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and Forward Gaming.
Tournament Format
The tournament will consist of a Group Stage and playoffs. Four teams, including Alliance and Ninjas in Pyjamas, will skip the Group Stage and move directly into the playoffs. The remaining 10 teams will be divided into two groups and compete in a best-of-one, round robin format. The top four teams from each group will advance to the playoffs, while the team with the worst record will be eliminated.
Playoffs Format
The playoffs will follow a single elimination format, with all matches being best-of-three except for the grand finals, which will be best-of-five. This format deviates from the traditional Winner’s and Loser’s Bracket format commonly seen in esports competitions.
Many of the participating teams in the Winter Madness tournament will also be taking part in other online events around the same time. Fans can expect a few weeks filled with online matches leading up to the major events in 2019.
