Cloud9 Announces Signing LS as Head Coach for League of Legends

Cloud9 Announces Nick “LS” De Cesare as Head Coach for the 2022 League of Legends Season

Cloud9 has officially signed Nick “LS” De Cesare as its head coach for the upcoming 2022 League of Legends season, as announced by the team today.

LS, who has spent the last two professional seasons as a full-time streamer, is well-known in the League community for his co-streams of professional matches from various regions.

Despite his recent streaming career, LS has an extensive coaching history that dates back several years, including coaching stints with teams like Korea’s bbq Olivers, Gravity, and Tempo Storm in the North American League scene.

In a video posted by the organization, LS, a South Korean resident with strong ties to the country’s League of Legends scene, mentioned the closing gap between Western and Eastern teams as one of the reasons for joining C9.

“If there was ever going to be a chance to return to pro play in some facet, coaching, this probably would have just been it—provided that a lot of the stars would end up aligning,” LS said. “And, I thought watching Worlds this past year that LPL and LCK teams actually regressed in terms of gameplay … and I never felt that before in previous years.”

Restructuring for the 2022 Season

C9 reached the quarterfinals of this year’s League of Legends World Championship, securing victories over LPL and LEC teams. In preparation for the 2022 season, the team has made changes to its starting lineup by adding top laner Summit, AD carry Berserker, and support Winsome. Fudge, the team’s previous top laner, will move to the middle lane in 2022.

Furthermore, LS, as the new head coach, has promised to involve the organization’s Academy team in the roster development process. In the upcoming season, LS will work with C9’s full pool of players to practice and improve internally. Notable contracted players include veteran top laner Darshan, as well as bottom laners Zven and K1ng.

LS is set to make his coaching debut with Cloud9 when the LCS returns on January 14.
