CLG Parts Ways with Coach Tony “Zikz” Gray
In a surprising move, Counter Logic Gaming (CLG) has decided to let go of their longtime coach, Tony “Zikz” Gray. Known for their unconventional playstyle and unpredictable draft picks, CLG has been a dominant force in the NA LCS, winning two championships in the last five years.
Zikz, who was hailed as one of the region’s best strategic minds, struggled to adapt to the meta changes and the evolving league in season eight. This ultimately led to CLG’s decision to part ways with him.
For CLG fans, this news comes as a disappointment, as Zikz, along with support player Zaqueri “Aphromoo” Black, was instrumental in building the team’s success. However, after Aphromoo’s departure to 100 Thieves in the previous offseason, Zikz found it difficult to get CLG back on track.
Despite some promising moments in the Summer Split, where CLG started with a 5-3 record, the team has struggled to improve and has suffered a six-game losing streak, resulting in their decision for change.
Replacing Zikz as the head coach will be assistant coach Zach Goldman. Zikz expressed gratitude for his time coaching the team on Twitter.
The timing of this change is unexpected, as it comes in the middle of the season. CLG, now without their leader of five years, will face Clutch Gaming in their next match, hoping to break their current losing streak.
