Dota gets a Card Game Makeover with Artifact
Valve has made a surprising move by expanding the Dota universe with the introduction of a new digital card game called Artifact. Similar to popular card games like Hearthstone and Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, Artifact adds a unique twist with its Dota theme. Although not much is known about the game at this point, a teaser was released during The International 7 on August 8th.
The digital card games market has experienced remarkable growth, generating $1.4 billion in sales. With such a thriving market, it only makes sense for Valve to jump in and capitalize on it. While physical card games still generate higher revenue, the digital card game market is showing immense promise.
According to Sean “Day9” Plott, Artifact will incorporate various gameplay options inspired by Dota. This includes lane pushing, champions, and the ability to purchase items. Fans can expect more details to be revealed leading up to the game’s release in 2018.
